Origin and historical development
The Australasian Bosdog was first developed in the early 1990s. Dogs Australia describes it as a blend of the British Bulldog with several other breeds, put together with a clear aim: a short-faced, smooth-coated, thickset, medium-sized family dog, recognisably of bulldog type but suited to Australasian conditions.
The breed was endorsed by Dogs Australia as a breed under development from 1 January 2022, and its standard was last amended in June 2022.
The standard asks for a dog that conveys strength, activity and stamina with a trustworthy and enduring disposition, loyal and fierce in appearance but outgoing and affectionate in nature, stable and predictable.
