About the Club

Background and role

The Afghan Hound Club of NSW was formed in 1956, at a time when there were probably fewer than fifty Afghan Hounds in the whole of Australia, and it is the oldest club for the breed in the country.

Its main event is a specialty championship show, which the club has now run well over a hundred times and which it often stages back to back with a second show on the same weekend, alongside the NSW Hound Club specialties and the Afghan judging at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The club also keeps public lists of its past specialty and national winners, which trace the breed's leading Australian kennels across decades.

It is a different organisation from the Afghan Hound Club of Victoria.
