About the Club
Background and role
The Bull Terrier Club of South Australia Inc. is the South Australian breed club for the Bull Terrier and the Bull Terrier (Miniature). It is based in Adelaide and works under the constitution of Dogs Australia and its South Australian member body, Dogs SA.
Its stated objects are to educate members, breeders, exhibitors and judges to abide by the approved breed standards, to support competition and hold exhibitions, to promote public interest in the two breeds and good fellowship among their followers, and to hear objections or complaints arising from its own events.
The club also asks something of its members that goes beyond the usual rules. Its declaration of honour binds them not to breed from, exhibit or sell deaf Bull Terriers or Bull Terrier (Miniatures), and not to breed from or offer at stud any dog carrying an inheritable painful defect. The club states plainly that it counts as deaf any dog that cannot hear perfectly.
Alongside its championship show weekend the club runs fun days, keeps a breeders' directory and point scores for both breeds, and publishes health information on the breeds. For 2026 the executive is led by Kerry King as president with Tracey Ruch as vice president, Chevaun Haseldine as secretary and Paul Phillips as treasurer; the committee includes Robyn Clarke, Steve Eaton and Paul Haseldine. Mari Lowden is club patron, and the life members recorded by the club include Ann Gorman, Harry and Mari Lowden, Lorna Elphick, Sharon Carter, Tracey Ruch, Paul Phillips and Kerry King, with Bud Downer and Albert Reading listed as deceased.
