Background and role
The Canine Research Foundation is a public charitable foundation created on 24 August 1992. Its original trustees included Bob Maver and Roger Bridgford.
The foundation funds research into the causes, prevention or cure of disease and scientific research related to canine health, carried out at Australian universities. It is governed by its trust deed and constitution, complies with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission and is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office.
Its founder is the Victorian Canine Association, trading as Dogs Victoria, which funds the foundation through a puppy registration levy. Each year the foundation calls for funding applications and assesses them against its trust deed; since its inception it has allocated funds to over one hundred research projects totalling more than 1.6 million dollars.
