About the Club
Information and activities
Rottweilerklubben Danmark (RKD) is the official breed club for the Rottweiler in Denmark, operating under the auspices of the Dansk Kennel Klub (DKK). Since its founding in 1944 in Odense, the club has served as the primary organization for enthusiasts, breeders, and owners dedicated to the preservation and development of the Rottweiler breed.
History and Mission
The club was established in 1944 with an initial gathering of 70 interested members, receiving official recognition from the DKK in the same year. Throughout its history, the club has been a pioneer in canine development. Notably, in 1997, the club participated in a pilot project to implement the Swedish-developed UngHundeMentaltest (UHM), reflecting a long-standing commitment to evaluating and improving the mental health and temperament of the breed.
Activities and Breed Focus
The club is exclusively dedicated to the Rottweiler breed and offers a wide range of activities designed to engage both the dogs and their owners. Key activities include:
- Competitions and Championships: The club organizes and participates in high-level events, including IGP (International Gebrauchshund Prüfungsordnung) championships and various working dog trials.
- Exhibitions: RKD hosts regular breed-specific exhibitions, including festive annual Christmas shows, providing a platform for showcasing the breed's conformation and quality.
- Mental Testing and Breeding: The club places a strong emphasis on the mental well-being of the breed, regularly hosting UHM (Young Dog Mental Tests) and official breeding evaluations (Avlskåring).
- Educational Resources: Members have access to the club's official magazine, Rottweileren, which is available to the public and serves as a source for news, advice, and breed-specific information.
Membership and Governance
Rottweilerklubben Danmark is a member-driven organization governed by a board (HB). It maintains transparency through annual general meetings where members can review financial reports and participate in the election of leadership. The club offers both individual and family memberships, providing members with access to a community of experts, training opportunities, and the latest developments within the breed. By fostering a collaborative environment, the club continues to support the health, training, and responsible ownership of Rottweilers across Denmark.
