Spidshundeklubben (SPK)

Spidshundeklubben (SPK) is a nationwide special club operating under the auspices of the Danish Kennel Club (DKK). It serves as the primary organization for over 40 distinct breeds, specifically representing all breeds within FCI Group 5 (Spitz and Primitive types) that do not have their own dedicated special club. The organization is deeply committed to the welfare of these breeds, focusing on both the physical and mental health of the dogs through responsible breeding and ethical practices.

• Exhibitions: The club organizes regular dog shows across Denmark, such as the Forårsvinder (Spring Winner) events, providing platforms for competition and breed evaluation.
• Educational Publications: Members receive the club magazine, Spidshunden, six times a year, which features in-depth articles, show results, and expert advice.
• Breeding Support: The club maintains a puppy and mating list to assist in finding suitable homes for new litters and to support responsible breeders.
• Diverse Disciplines: Beyond conformation shows, the club supports various canine activities including herding, rally obedience, tracking, and mental descriptions to ensure the holistic development of the dogs.

The club represents a vast array of Spitz and primitive breeds, including but not limited to: Akita, American Akita, Basenji, Finnish Lapphund, Japanese Spitz, Keeshond, Norwegian Buhund, Shiba, Swedish Vallhund, and Thai Ridgeback Dog.
