Welsh Corgi Klubben (WCK)

Welsh Corgi Klubben (WCK) is the official breed club for Welsh Corgis in Denmark, operating as an independent specialty club under the Danish Kennel Club (Dansk Kennel Klub). Established on May 7, 1974, the club originally functioned as a social organization before evolving into the robust, activity-driven association it is today. From a modest beginning with only 49 members in 1981, the club has experienced significant growth, currently boasting approximately 900 members.

The core mission of the WCK is to promote the welfare and quality of the Welsh Corgi breed. The club maintains a firm commitment to ensuring that all Corgis are breed-typical, possessing both a correct exterior and a healthy, sound body. Furthermore, the club places a high priority on the mental well-being and temperament of the dogs, ensuring they are balanced and healthy companions.

The club offers a wide array of activities designed to engage its active membership base, including:

• Specialty Shows: The club hosts approximately seven specialty exhibitions annually.
• Training and Sports: Members can participate in herding training, tracking, and dog swimming.
• Social Engagement: The club organizes regular walks, often featuring small active elements, and hosts an annual member weekend.
• Publications: Members receive the club magazine, Corgi Nyt, which is published four times a year in A4 format.

The WCK is governed by a dedicated board that fosters strong collaboration to maintain its high level of activity. Throughout its history, the club has been led by several committed chairpersons, with leadership continuity playing a vital role in its development from a small group into a thriving national organization. The club continues to serve as a central hub for Corgi enthusiasts, providing resources such as puppy lists, breeder information, and breeding news to support the responsible ownership and development of the breed.
