About the Club
Information and activities
The Estonian Dobermann Club (Eesti Dobermanniühing - EDÜ) is a dedicated organization committed to the promotion, development, and welfare of the Dobermann breed in Estonia. Operating under the umbrella of the Estonian Kennel Union, the club serves as a central hub for enthusiasts, breeders, and owners, fostering a community focused on both the physical excellence and the working capabilities of the breed.
Core Mission and Activities
The club's primary mission is to maintain the high standards of the Dobermann breed. To achieve this, the EDÜ organizes a variety of professional events, including:
- Specialty Shows: The club hosts annual specialty exhibitions, such as the "Club Winner" (Klubi Võitja) events, where dogs are evaluated by international judges to ensure adherence to breed standards.
- Working Trials and Training: Recognizing the Dobermann as a working breed, the EDÜ actively promotes IGP (International Gebrauchshund Prüfung) and obedience training. They organize championships and seminars, such as tracking seminars led by world-renowned experts, to help handlers improve their skills in tracking, obedience, and protection.
- Educational Seminars: The club provides opportunities for members to deepen their knowledge of breed standards, judging criteria, and training methodologies.
Membership and Governance
The EDÜ operates as a member-driven organization. It holds annual general meetings where members participate in the approval of annual reports, the election of the board, and the planning of future activities. Membership requires the payment of an annual fee, which grants members access to club events at discounted rates and the right to participate in club governance.
Rules and Participation Requirements
The club maintains strict standards for all participants in its events to ensure the health and safety of the dogs:
- Health and Identification: All participating dogs must be properly vaccinated against rabies, distemper, infectious hepatitis, and parvovirus. Furthermore, all dogs must be permanently identified via microchip or tattoo.
- Ethical Standards: The club enforces strict regulations regarding animal welfare. Notably, dogs with cropped ears or docked tails born after August 1, 2013, are prohibited from participating in club-organized exhibitions.
- Registration: Participants are required to follow formal registration procedures, often involving the submission of pedigree documentation for dogs not previously registered in the Estonian database.
Through its consistent efforts in organizing high-quality competitions and educational initiatives, the Estonian Dobermann Club plays a vital role in the Estonian canine community, ensuring that the Dobermann remains a healthy, capable, and well-represented breed.
