About the Club

Background and role

The Bayerischer Kurzhaar-Klub e.V. is the Bavarian club for the German Shorthaired Pointer, one of the member clubs under the Deutsch-Kurzhaar-Verband e.V.. Its own pages carry a chronicle of the club rather than a list of achievements, and the chronicle is mostly a chronicle of people: who held the chair and what the Bavarian dogs did under them.

By that account Dr. Ulrich Schmid was followed by Dr. Hans Rieger from 1978 to 1985, then by Armin von Freyberg until 1993, then by Dieter Wohlert, who chaired the club until 2011. In 2011 Rita Penker became the first woman at the head of the club, and since 2016 it has been led by Walter Bott. The club records that from the middle of the 1980s Bavarian dogs began to place at breed shows, at the international pointing dog tests and at the Dr. Kleemann breeding selection test.
