The first studbook-keeping club for the Lagotto Romagnolo in Germany, admitted to the VDH in December 2021.
About the Club
Background and role
The Lagotto Romagnolo Züchtergemeinschaft e.V. is a German breed club for a single breed, the Lagotto Romagnolo. It describes itself as the club for admirers, friends and breeders of the breed, and it is young as clubs go: it was admitted to the Verband für das Deutsche Hundewesen on 20 December 2021, and with that became the first Lagotto Romagnolo club in Germany to keep a studbook of its own.
Its stated purpose is the promotion of Lagotti Romagnoli that are typical of the breed, healthy, sound in behaviour and easy in company. The breeding side runs through mating and litter notifications by year, a list of breeders, a list of stud dogs, a breeding-approval test and a written guide for people starting out, with a breeding committee, a show committee and a committee for working tests behind them. The club also keeps a rescue section for dogs in need.
The breed is the truffle dog, and the club treats that as more than history: beside the standard and the breed's history it publishes a section on the truffle dog itself, and it reports on truffle courses alongside its shows, seminars and Lagotto outings. Palma Rodler, who breeds the breed under the affix Diamanti del Montecastello and holds the FCI licence for truffle search, is listed as a member in the VDH breeder register.
