About the Club
Information and activities
The Związek Kynologiczny w Polsce (ZKwP), known internationally as the Polish Kennel Club, stands as the premier canine organization in Poland. Established on July 29, 1938, and subsequently reactivated on May 5, 1948, following the Second World War, the organization holds the distinction of being the sole Polish representative within the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale), a global federation founded in 1911 that unites canine organizations across 90 countries.
The core mission of the ZKwP is to foster the responsible breeding, ownership, and appreciation of purebred dogs. With a robust infrastructure consisting of 50 regional branches, the club serves as a central hub for breeders, owners, and enthusiasts. The organization oversees a vast spectrum of canine diversity, covering approximately 350 recognized breeds categorized into various groups, including:
- Sheepdogs and Cattledogs
- Pinschers, Schnauzers, Molossers, and Swiss Mountain Dogs
- Terriers and Dachshunds
- Spitz and primitive types
- Scent Hounds and Pointing Dogs
- Retrievers, Flushing Dogs, and Water Dogs
- Companion and Toy Dogs
- Sighthounds
A significant aspect of the club's identity is its dedication to preserving Polish heritage. The organization takes great pride in promoting six native breeds: the Polish Greyhound, Polish Hunting Dog, Polish Hound, Polish Lowland Shepherd, Polish Tatra Sheepdog, and the Polish Hunting Spaniel, the latter of which is a unique breed recognized locally.
Beyond breeding standards, the ZKwP is a powerhouse for canine events and sports. Annually, the club organizes approximately 200 dog shows, including 30 prestigious international events. Notably, the club hosted the European Dog Show in Warszawa-Nadarzyn in 2018. Furthermore, the ZKwP actively promotes canine athleticism and utility through various competitions, such as agility, obedience, dummy trials, sighthound racing, and coursing. In collaboration with the Polish Hunting Association, the club also facilitates specialized trials and tests for hunting dogs, ensuring that the working instincts and capabilities of these breeds are maintained and celebrated.
