About the Club
Information and activities
The Zwiazek Kynologiczny w Polsce (ZKwP), or the Polish Kennel Club, stands as the premier canine organization in Poland. Established on July 29, 1938, and reactivated on May 5, 1948, following World War II, the organization holds the distinction of being the sole Polish representative within the International Canine Federation (FCI), which connects canine associations across 90 countries. With a robust network of 50 regional branches, the ZKwP serves as the central hub for breeders, owners, and enthusiasts dedicated to the preservation and promotion of purebred dogs.
The club oversees a vast array of canine interests, covering 350 recognized breeds categorized into diverse groups, including Sheepdogs, Terriers, Retrievers, Scent Hounds, and Companion dogs. A significant portion of the organization's mission is dedicated to the protection and promotion of Poland's six native breeds:
- Polish Greyhound
- Polish Hunting Dog
- Polish Hound
- Polish Lowland Shepherd
- Polish Tatra Sheepdog
- Polish Hunting Spaniel (a breed recognized nationally)
Beyond breed preservation, the ZKwP is a highly active organization that facilitates approximately 200 dog shows annually, including 30 international events. Notably, the club successfully hosted the European Dog Show in Warszawa-Nadarzyn in 2018. The organization's commitment to canine excellence extends into the realm of sports and working trials. It actively organizes and sanctions a variety of competitive activities, such as:
- Agility and Obedience
- Dummy training
- Sighthound races and coursings
- Companion and Schutzhund championships
- Hunting dog trials and tests, conducted in collaboration with the Polish Hunting Association
Through these diverse activities, the ZKwP maintains high standards for canine welfare, breeding ethics, and the development of working and companion dogs across the nation.
