About the Club
Information and activities
The Związek Kynologiczny w Polsce (ZKwP), known internationally as the Polish Kennel Club, stands as the premier canine organization in Poland. Established on July 29, 1938, and successfully reactivated on May 5, 1948, following the Second World War, the organization holds the distinction of being the sole Polish representative within the FCI (International Canine Federation), which connects canine organizations across 90 countries.
The core mission of the ZKwP is to serve as a comprehensive hub for breeders, owners, and enthusiasts of purebred dogs. With a network of 50 regional branches, the club oversees the welfare and development of approximately 350 recognized breeds. These breeds are categorized into diverse groups, including:
- Pinschers and Schnauzers
- Sheepdogs and Cattledogs
- Molossers and Swiss Mountain Dogs
- Terriers and Dachshunds
- Spitz and primitive types
- Scent Hounds and Pointing Dogs
- Retrievers, Flushing Dogs, and Water Dogs
- Companion and Toy Dogs
- Sighthounds
A significant aspect of the club's identity is its dedication to the preservation of Poland's cynological heritage. The ZKwP takes great pride in promoting six native breeds: the Polish Greyhound, Polish Hunting Dog, Polish Hound, Polish Lowland Shepherd, Polish Tatra Sheepdog, and the Polish Hunting Spaniel.
The activities of the ZKwP are extensive and multifaceted. Annually, the club organizes approximately 200 dog shows, including 30 international events, and notably hosted the European Dog Show in Warszawa-Nadarzyn in 2018. Beyond conformation shows, the organization is deeply committed to canine performance and utility. It facilitates a wide array of sport competitions, such as agility, obedience, dummy trials, sighthound racing, and coursing. Furthermore, the club organizes companion and schutzhund championships, while maintaining a close partnership with the Polish Hunting Association to conduct essential trials and tests for hunting dogs, ensuring the maintenance of breed-specific working standards.
