About the Club

Information and activities

Związek Kynologiczny w Polsce (ZKwP) is the premier national organization dedicated to the advancement and regulation of cynology in Poland. With a rich history spanning over 90 years of membership in the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), the ZKwP serves as the primary authority for dog breeding, training, and exhibition standards within the country. The organization is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in breeding, promoting responsible dog ownership, and fostering international cooperation with global cynological bodies.

Core Mission and Activities:

  • International Representation: The ZKwP actively represents Polish cynology on the global stage, including participation in FCI General Assemblies and hosting prestigious international events such as the upcoming World Dog Show 2029.
  • Breeding and Regulation: The club oversees rigorous breeding standards, maintains databases for microchipping and puppy registration, and ensures compliance with national animal health legislation.
  • Working Dog Development: A significant focus of the ZKwP is the promotion of working dog utility. This includes formal partnerships with organizations like the Polish Hunting Association to standardize trials, tests, and competitions for hunting breeds.
  • Education and Advocacy: The ZKwP provides extensive resources for members, including the quarterly publication PIES (published since 1948), which serves as a historical and educational archive for the community.

Breeds and Heritage:

The ZKwP is a staunch guardian of Polish canine heritage. It actively promotes and protects native breeds, including those recognized by the FCI and those under local development. The recognized Polish breeds include:

  • Polski owczarek nizinny (Polish Lowland Sheepdog)
  • Polski owczarek podhalański (Polish Tatra Shepherd)
  • Gończy polski (Polish Hunting Dog)
  • Ogar polski (Polish Hound)
  • Chart polski (Polish Greyhound)
  • Polski spaniel myśliwski (Polish Hunting Spaniel - currently recognized by ZKwP)

Rules and Governance:

The organization operates under a structured governance model led by the Main Board (Zarząd Główny). Members are expected to adhere to strict breeding regulations, participate in sanctioned exhibitions, and follow established protocols for health and registration. The ZKwP emphasizes the importance of professional conduct, continuous education for judges, and the ethical treatment of animals, ensuring that the passion for cynology is balanced with responsibility and respect for the welfare of the dogs.
