About the Club

Information and activities

The Kennel Club de España (KCE) is an independent national canine organization based in Spain, officially recognized by the General Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock since October 2018. Operating under the legal framework of Royal Decrees 558/2001 and 1557/2005, the KCE serves as an alternative for breeders and owners of purebred dogs, distinct from the FCI. As a full member of the International Kennel Union (IKU), the organization provides its members with global reach across 1,500 associated canine entities.

Core Mission and Philosophy: The KCE is dedicated to promoting a healthy cynology by prioritizing animal welfare and genetic health. Their mission centers on the selection of the best individuals of each breed, ensuring that only healthy dogs are used for reproduction. The club emphasizes that dogs are integral to human history and culture, advocating for a philosophy that values the love of animals over commercial gain. In recognition of their commitment to excellence, the KCE was honored with the Prestige Awards Spain 2023-24.

Activities and Breed Coverage: The KCE recognizes approximately 450 breeds, including all those officially acknowledged in their countries of origin. A significant focus of the organization is the promotion and preservation of Spanish native breeds, which are highlighted in a dedicated group during their exhibitions. These breeds are celebrated for their historical roles in livestock management, substance detection, and therapeutic support.

Key Rules and Benefits: The KCE implements a rigorous approach to pedigree integrity and health:

  • Mandatory DNA Testing: All dogs registered with the KCE must undergo DNA testing for filiation and kinship, a service included at no additional cost in registration fees.
  • Open Participation: The club promotes freedom of participation for dogs from all official genealogical registries, adhering to Directive 91/174/EEC.
  • Support for Breeders: The organization offers streamlined litter processing, direct pedigree options, and affordable registration fees to support breeders during economic challenges.
  • Non-Profit Commitment: The KCE is committed to reinvesting any potential profits back into its social objectives rather than financial investments.

By fostering a community that values transparency and genetic health, the Kennel Club de España seeks to challenge existing monopolies and provide a modern, inclusive platform for the Spanish canine community.
