Specialklubben för Bearded Collie (SBC)
Swedish breed club for the Bearded Collie
About the Club
Background and role
Specialklubben för Bearded Collie (SBC) is the Swedish breed club for the Bearded Collie and a specialist club within the Svenska Kennelklubben. Under the Swedish system a specialist club answers for its breed in matters of the breed standard and of the rules for working, herding, sledding and hunting trials, and it holds the right to run official trials and shows in its own name.
The club began in 1971 as a breed association called Bearded Collie Gruppen. Its magazine, Skocken, appeared for the first time in 1972, the year the group also held its first annual meeting, and in 1990 it became a specialist club of the SKK under its present name. It publishes the breed standard, a judges' compendium, breeding and health material including an HD index, a stud dog list and breed data, and it organises its work through regional districts.
Its shows are where the Swedish breed is measured against itself. The club's own fixtures - among them the Kannan at Gålö and the Trofén - run alongside the national shows of the SKK, and its published results and judges' critiques record the dogs of Swedish kennels such as Nickelby's of Jahn Stääv.
