About the Club
Information and activities
Svenska Spets och Urhundklubben (SSUK) is a specialized canine organization established in 1999, dedicated to specific breeds within the FCI Group 5 category. The club serves as an umbrella organization for 15 affiliated breed clubs, fostering a collaborative environment for enthusiasts and breeders alike. Membership in any of these affiliated breed clubs automatically grants membership to SSUK, providing access to a wide range of activities and organizational influence.
Core Mission and Objectives: The primary mission of SSUK is to promote the breeding of mentally and physically sound, healthy, and structurally correct purebred dogs. The club is committed to:
- Preserving and developing the unique characteristics of the breeds within its purview.
- Encouraging the training and practical utility of these dogs.
- Disseminating knowledge regarding canine behavior, upbringing, education, and general care.
- Advocating for the interests of dog owners and fostering positive relationships between dog owners, their pets, and the broader community.
Activities and Governance: SSUK is highly active in the canine community, hosting four of its own exhibitions annually. Furthermore, its 15 affiliated breed clubs organize numerous special exhibitions throughout the year. The club operates under a strict code of conduct, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy toward bullying and harassment.
The governance of the club is managed through the SSUK Council (fullmäktige), which serves as the highest decision-making body. This council meets biennially before the end of March. Members of the affiliated breed clubs have the opportunity to be elected to the board or appointed as delegates to represent their respective clubs at these council meetings, ensuring that the organization remains democratic and responsive to its members' needs.
Commitment to Excellence: SSUK actively supports its members by providing resources such as digital meeting tools, judge lists, and comprehensive information on breeding and exhibition standards. By maintaining high standards for both the physical and mental well-being of the dogs, SSUK continues to play a vital role in the preservation and advancement of spitz and primitive dog breeds in Sweden.
