About the Club

Information and activities

Svenska Terrierklubben (SvTeK), established in 1903, serves as the official special club for terrier breeds in Sweden and is proudly affiliated with the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK). With over a century of history, the organization acts as a central hub for enthusiasts, breeders, and owners dedicated to the preservation and promotion of terrier breeds.

Core Mission and Activities

The club's primary mission is to support the development and well-being of the 38 distinct terrier breeds under its purview. SvTeK provides a wealth of resources for both current and prospective owners, including essential breed-specific information and RAS (Breed-Specific Breeding Strategies) documentation. The club is highly active in organizing and promoting various canine events, most notably:

  • Dog Shows: The club facilitates regular exhibitions, providing platforms for members to showcase their dogs and evaluate them against breed standards.
  • Performance and Training: SvTeK encourages participation in diverse activities such as agility, tracking (viltspår), and BPH (Behavior and Personality Assessment), highlighting the versatility of the terrier group.
  • Annual Results: The organization maintains comprehensive records of annual performance and competition results, fostering a sense of community and achievement among its members.

Breeds and Characteristics

SvTeK oversees a wide variety of breeds, each with unique temperaments and requirements. The club emphasizes the importance of understanding these traits, which range from the lively and courageous Parson Russell Terrier to the charming and curious Lakeland Terrier. Other breeds, such as the Bullterrier, are recognized for their stable, good-natured, and versatile family-oriented personalities, while the Wire Fox Terrier is celebrated as an intelligent and engaging companion. The club ensures that owners are well-informed about the specific needs of these active and spirited dogs.

Organizational Structure

To maintain a strong connection with its members across the country, Svenska Terrierklubben operates through a network of regional branches, including the Sydsvenska, Västsvenska, Östsvenska, and Övre Norra Terrierklubben. These local clubs allow for localized support, community building, and regional event coordination. Through its official publication, TerrierPosten, and its digital presence, the club continues to serve as the primary authority and advocate for terrier enthusiasts throughout Sweden.
