About the Club
Information and activities
Svenska Vinthundklubben (SvVK) is a dedicated special club operating under the Swedish Kennel Club (SKK). The organization holds primary responsibility for the breeds categorized within FCI Group 10 (sighthounds), as well as specific breeds within Group 5. The core mission of the SvVK is to preserve and develop the unique characteristics of these breeds while actively promoting their practical utility and functional capabilities.
The club maintains a robust calendar of activities designed to engage owners and showcase the talents of their dogs. Annually, the SvVK and its various departments organize approximately 15 official dog shows and 10 lure coursing trials. In addition to these official events, the club facilitates unofficial shows and regular lure coursing training sessions. A key standard for their exhibition events is the commitment to utilizing specialized judges, specifically selecting sighthound experts and experienced breeders to evaluate the participants.
Lure coursing serves as the primary working test for sighthounds within the club. Since 1999, this sport has been formally recognized, allowing participants to compete for certificates, CACIL titles, and championships. This highlights the club's dedication to maintaining the athletic heritage of the breeds they represent.
The SvVK also fosters a strong sense of community through its publications and administrative support. Key features of their organizational efforts include:
- The Annual Book (Årsboken): A comprehensive publication that documents the year's achievements, featuring articles, advertisements, and recognition for dogs that have earned official titles.
- Membership Requirements: Active membership in the SvVK is a mandatory prerequisite for participation in all official shows, lure coursing trials, and training events.
- Educational Resources: The club provides access to historical documentation, such as their commemorative jubilee book, which serves as a testament to the organization's long-standing history.
By combining competitive sporting events with a focus on breed preservation and community engagement, the Svenska Vinthundklubben remains a central pillar for sighthound enthusiasts in Sweden, ensuring that both the aesthetic and functional qualities of these elegant breeds are upheld for future generations.
