About the Club

Information and activities

Der Schweizerische Boxer-Club (SBC), founded in 1906, serves as the primary organization dedicated to the preservation and advancement of the Boxer breed in Switzerland. Comprising eleven semi-autonomous local groups, the club operates under a centralized board that establishes the regulatory framework for breeding, judging, and selection processes. The SBC is committed to fostering a breed that is not only physically robust and athletic but also possesses a balanced, friendly temperament suitable for modern society.

Core Mission and Breeding Standards: For over 50 years, the SBC has prioritized the development of the Boxer as a socially compatible companion and working dog. To achieve this, the club enforces a rigorous breeding admission process. This includes mandatory character assessments (temperament tests), health screenings, and conformation evaluations. These strict standards ensure that the breed remains healthy, stable, and well-suited for its role as a versatile working partner.

Activities and Training: The local groups of the SBC offer a comprehensive range of programs designed to support owners and their dogs at every stage of life. These activities include:

  • Welcoming puppy socialization classes.
  • Structured obedience and education courses.
  • Specialized training groups for family dogs.
  • Advanced training programs for competitive sports dogs.
  • Community-focused family days featuring fun and games.

Events and Competitions: Beyond daily training, the SBC organizes and hosts significant events, including the prestigious annual Jahressieger-Ausstellung (Annual Winner Exhibition). The club is also deeply involved in competitive working dog sports, facilitating trials in various disciplines such as BH (Begleithund), VPG (Vielseitigkeitsprüfung), IGP (Internationale Gebrauchshundeprüfung), Sanität (Sanitätshund), FH (Fährtenhund), and AD (Ausdauerprüfung). Additionally, the club conducts three official breeding suitability examinations annually to maintain the high quality of the breed.

Governance: The organization is managed by a Central Board, which includes the presidents of the local groups and elected specialists. This structure ensures that the club remains responsive to the needs of the breed while adapting to the evolving requirements of a modern society. Through its dedication to health, temperament, and performance, the SBC continues to be a cornerstone for Boxer enthusiasts and breeders in Switzerland.
