About the Club
Information and activities
The Kennel Club of Taiwan (KCT) serves as the premier national organization dedicated to the advancement, breeding, and management of purebred dogs in Taiwan. Originally established in 1990 as the Republic of China Kennel Association, the organization underwent a significant transformation to become the KCT. In 1991, it achieved a major milestone by being officially recognized as a member of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), the world's largest international canine organization based in Belgium. As the sole representative for Taiwan within the FCI, KCT ensures that all local breeding standards, competition regulations, and pedigree research align with global benchmarks.
The core mission of the KCT is to elevate the standards of purebred dog cultivation and management while fostering a culture of responsible pet ownership. The association acts as a vital bridge between the government and the canine community, promoting legitimate recreational activities and representing Taiwan on the international stage. A significant achievement in the club's history is its successful advocacy for the Taiwan Dog. Through years of dedicated breeding and improvement, the KCT secured recognition for the Taiwan Dog as an official Asian breed by the Asian Kennel Union (AKU) in 2001, followed by its status as a provisional breed by the FCI.
The KCT maintains a robust infrastructure to support the canine industry, including:
- International Dog Shows: The association hosts regular FCI-sanctioned dog shows to promote excellence in conformation and temperament.
- Professional Certification: KCT operates specialized committees that conduct annual qualification exams, competitions, and workshops for professional dog groomers and handlers.
- Expert Judging: The organization manages a prestigious roster of over 40 judges, including 13 all-breed judges, and actively invests in training programs to ensure deep expertise in breed standards.
- Pedigree Documentation: KCT issues official purebred dog pedigrees that are recognized by the FCI, the UK's Kennel Club (KC), and the American Kennel Club (AKC), ensuring global credibility for Taiwanese breeders.
By adhering to strict international protocols and fostering continuous education for its members, the KCT remains committed to enhancing the international status of Taiwan's canine community while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and professional integrity.
