About the Club
Information and activities
UK Agility International (UKI) is a premier organization dedicated to the sport of dog agility, established with a primary focus on ensuring safety and enjoyment for every canine participant. Since its inception, the organization has experienced significant growth, currently supporting a community of over 14,000 registered members, with approximately 1,000 new enthusiasts joining annually. The core mission of UKI is to foster the growth of agility while elevating performance standards by promoting reward-based training methods within a competitive arena. This approach is designed to strengthen the bond between dog and handler while maintaining a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere for families and spectators alike.
Activities and Competition Structure
UKI offers an extensive calendar featuring hundreds of days of competition throughout the year. Their events range from local trials to major international showcases, including the UKI US Open, the UKI West Coast Open, the 1-TDC Invitational, and the UKI Canadian Open. To ensure fair and inclusive competition, the organization utilizes a structured system that accommodates dogs of all backgrounds:
- Jump Heights and Levels: All shows provide 11 distinct jump heights and 4 competition levels, allowing dogs to compete against peers of similar size and ability.
- Specialized Classes: The organization offers a 'Select' option tailored for dogs recovering from injury, older dogs, or breeds that may find standard heights challenging. Additionally, they provide Veteran classes for seniors and Nursery classes for young or less experienced dogs.
- Progression System: Advancement through the levels—covering Agility, Jumping, Games, and Speedstakes—is managed via a points-based system. This structure rewards every clear round, thereby encouraging consistency and positive reinforcement throughout the training process.
Commitment to Excellence
By emphasizing reward-based training and providing a diverse array of competitive opportunities, UKI continues to be a leading force in the agility world. Whether through their DASH tournaments, international challenge events, or at-home trials, the organization remains committed to providing a professional yet accessible environment where handlers can develop their skills and celebrate the achievements of their dogs. With a robust rule book and a clear progression path, UKI ensures that every participant, from the novice to the seasoned competitor, has the resources needed to succeed in the sport.
