About the Club
Information and activities
The Puget Sound Doberman Pinscher Club (PSDPC) is a dedicated organization of Doberman enthusiasts and fanciers based in Washington state. Established in 1969 and licensed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1972, the club serves as a local chapter of the Doberman Pinscher Club of America (DPCA). The organization is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity committed to protecting and supporting the future of the Doberman Pinscher breed while fostering a community of owners who view their dogs as loyal companions and family pets.
Core Mission and Activities
The PSDPC is highly active in promoting the versatility of the Doberman Pinscher. Members engage in a wide array of canine disciplines, showcasing the breed's intelligence and athleticism. The club's activities include:
- Conformation and Specialty Shows: The club hosts annual specialty shows, including events in Monroe, WA, and co-hosts the Northwest Doberman Extravaganza.
- Performance Sports: Members participate in agility trials, rally, obedience, scent work, dock diving, barn hunt, and tracking.
- Working Roles: The club celebrates the breed's capability in search and rescue, police and military service, and therapy support.
- Health and Welfare: The PSDPC prioritizes the health of the breed by hosting an annual Health Day for members, offering echocardiograms and laboratory work, and providing rental access to Holter monitor equipment.
Membership and Community Engagement
The club encourages active participation through volunteerism. Members who assist in running events or contribute to trophy funds can earn Health Day subsidy credits. Meetings are held on the second Monday of alternate months (January, March, May, July, September, and November). The club also engages with the public through events like "Meet the Breeds" at the Washington State Fair and various community outings.
Club Rules and Policies
The PSDPC maintains a professional stance regarding its limitations and responsibilities. The club does not provide advice on medical conditions, training, behavior, or nutrition, directing such inquiries to veterinarians. Furthermore, the PSDPC does not endorse, recommend, or rate specific breeders, kennels, or individual dogs, ensuring that the organization remains an impartial resource for the Doberman community. Prospective members are encouraged to join to support the club's ongoing efforts to celebrate and protect this energetic, watchful, and loyal breed.
