Information and activities
UK Agility International (UKI) is a premier organization dedicated to the sport of dog agility, established with a primary focus on ensuring safety and enjoyment for every canine participant. Since its inception, the organization has experienced significant growth, currently supporting a community of over 14,000 registered members, with approximately 1,000 new enthusiasts joining annually. The core mission of UKI is to foster the growth of agility while elevating performance standards through the promotion of reward-based training methods. By emphasizing positive reinforcement, UKI aims to strengthen the bond between dog and handler, creating a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere for competitors, families, and spectators alike.
The organization offers an extensive calendar featuring hundreds of competition days throughout the year. UKI is committed to inclusivity and fair play, providing a structured environment that accommodates dogs of all sizes and skill levels. Their competition framework includes:
- Comprehensive Class Structure: Competitions are divided into four distinct levels, allowing handlers to progress through a points-based system that rewards consistency in Agility, Jumping, Games, and Speedstakes.
- Inclusive Jump Heights: To ensure fair competition, UKI offers 11 different jump heights, allowing dogs to compete against peers of similar size and ability.
- Specialized Options: The Select Option is specifically designed for dogs that are new to the sport, recovering from injuries, aging, or those who find standard heights physically challenging.
- Age-Specific Classes: UKI provides dedicated Veteran classes for older dogs and Nursery classes for young or less experienced dogs, ensuring that every canine has a place to thrive.
Beyond local trials, UKI hosts prestigious large-scale events, including the UKI US Open, the UKI West Coast Open, the UKI Canadian Open, and the 1-TDC Invitational. These events, along with their DASH Tournaments and International Challenge events, highlight the organization's commitment to high-level competition. By maintaining a clear rule book and providing resources for hosting trials, UKI continues to be a leading force in the agility community, encouraging handlers to refine their skills in a competitive yet supportive arena.
