About the Kennel
Background and breeding focus
The kennel
Courtsum is the Labrador Retriever prefix of Anna Courtman and her husband Richard at Beckenham in Western Australia; their first litter was born in 1996 and ran to ten puppies, all hand-reared. Her life with the breed began before she did: the family’s first black Labrador, Schroeder, was born a month before she was. The household came to the breed ring through retrieving trials — Richard became a retrieving trial judge — and it was Tony and Julie Cartwright of the Blackboy kennel who encouraged her to try conformation with Ch Blackboy Etched in Ebony.
