The kennel
Mycroft is a small Welsh Springer Spaniel kennel at Lower Portland near Windsor, in the Hawkesbury district of New South Wales, run by Sylvia Brackman. Her interest in the breed began in the 1980s, when she saw two dogs imported into Australia from New Zealand by Scott and Eira Taylor of the Nantyderi kennel. There were then only a few Welsh Springers in Australia, so to learn the breed properly she went to Crufts in the United Kingdom, where it is shown in numbers of over four hundred, and visited breeders of leading Welsh Springer kennels in England, Scotland and Wales. Mycroft dogs have travelled in the other direction since: Mycroft Mountain Ash was sent to New Zealand and campaigned there in partnership with the Bryndoain kennel.
