Background and breeding focus
The kennel
vom Barnim was the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel kennel of Dr Laurits Lauritsen and his wife Monika. The first litter of the breed was born in their household nearly forty years before his death in 2019, which places its beginning around 1980 — early in the breed's history in Germany.
What the club said of it
In its obituary the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club Deutschland called the couple a bedrock of Cavalier breeding in the country. Lauritsen was a veterinarian, and the club wrote that his knowledge of breeding together with his veterinary training earned him respect at home and abroad, and that beyond his own breeding he shaped the breed through many years of judging and work in the club.
Beyond the dogs
The couple also bred and kept Highland cattle in the Märkische Schweiz, where the herd is used in landscape conservation.
