Black Mirage
English Cocker Spaniel · Hungary
About the Kennel
Background and breeding focus
Jakkel has bred since 1972, the year he joined the Hungarian federation. His own breeding was built for decades around the English Cocker Spaniel under the affix Black Mirage, whose foundation bitch he delivered himself as a young doctor when a well-known breeder, unable to attend a whelping after breaking her leg, called him for help. He counts thirty World Winners, several dozen European Winners and more than a hundred and fifty FCI International Champions among the dogs he has bred and owned. He later added smooth-haired dachshunds in all sizes and, in recent years, the Magyar Agár, which he describes as his most important cynological challenge today; he also competed successfully with a poodle. After the death of János Márczé, one of Hungary's most respected dachshund breeders, Jakkel took over the vom Golf affix and has continued it out of respect for their friendship. He keeps seven dogs. He traces that deliberate limit to a poem by an elderly woman in a British kennel club publication, which convinced him that human ambition should not override the life a dog is owed, and that a dog can only be a dog if it has a person of its own.
