About the Club
Information and activities
The Związek Kynologiczny w Polsce (ZKwP), known internationally as the Polish Kennel Club, stands as the premier canine organization in Poland. Established on July 29, 1938, and reactivated on May 5, 1948, following the Second World War, the organization holds the distinction of being the sole Polish representative within the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale), a global body established in 1911 that unites canine organizations across 90 countries.
The core mission of the ZKwP is to foster the responsible breeding, ownership, and appreciation of purebred dogs. With a robust infrastructure consisting of 50 regional branches, the club serves as a central hub for breeders, owners, and enthusiasts. The organization oversees the standards and welfare of approximately 350 recognized breeds, categorized into diverse groups including:
- Sheepdogs and Cattledogs
- Pinschers, Schnauzers, and Molossers
- Terriers and Dachshunds
- Spitz and primitive types
- Scent Hounds, Pointing Dogs, Retrievers, and Water Dogs
- Companion and Toy Dogs
- Sighthounds
A significant aspect of the club's identity is its dedication to preserving Polish heritage. The ZKwP takes great pride in promoting six native breeds: the Polish Greyhound, Polish Hunting Dog, Polish Hound, Polish Lowland Shepherd, Polish Tatra Sheepdog, and the Polish Hunting Spaniel.
The activities of the ZKwP are extensive and multifaceted. Annually, the club organizes approximately 200 dog shows, including 30 international events, and notably hosted the prestigious European Dog Show in 2018. Beyond conformation shows, the organization is deeply committed to canine performance and utility. It facilitates a wide array of sport competitions and working trials, such as:
- Agility and Obedience
- Dummy training and Sighthound racing
- Coursing events
- Companion and Schutzhund championships
- Hunting dog trials and tests, conducted in collaboration with the Polish Hunting Association
Through these rigorous standards and diverse activities, the Związek Kynologiczny w Polsce continues to play a pivotal role in the development and regulation of cynology within Poland and on the international stage.
