Professional Profile: Göran Bodegård
In memoriam — Dr. Göran Bodegård passed away on 22 March 2020 at the age of 80, shortly after celebrating his birthday, as announced by the FCI. He had served as an FCI all-breed judge for the Svenska Kennelklubben since 1966 — the longest tenure of any SKK judge — and the FCI Groups and Shows credentials shown above reflect the authorization record he held at the time.
Judging Credentials
Dr. Bodegård was first licensed on 29 September 1966 and went on to become an all-breed and Best in Show judge, officiating at Crufts, FCI World Shows and the Australian Royal Agricultural Shows, with BIS assignments on five continents and roughly 30–40 shows a year. He was fluent in English, French, German, Spanish and Swedish.
Breeding — Sighthounds
A veterinarian by training, Bodegård bred Deerhounds before turning to Greyhounds from 1966 onward, becoming one of Europe's leading Greyhound breeder-exhibitors. His Greyhound bitch Ch. Piruett, bred in partnership with fellow FCI judge Bo Bengtson, was named Dog of the Year in Sweden in 1975.
Roles & Publications
Bodegård served as president of the Swedish Greyhound Club, a board member of the Swedish Sighthound Club, a member of the SKK central board, and chairman of the SKK Standard Committee. He was a principal author of the Swedish Kennel Club's Breed Specific Instructions (BSI) programme addressing exaggerations in pedigree dogs.
